Handmade 5x8 inch 20 gauge copper sheet, hand pierced with a jeweler's saw using 2/0 blades. Steel brush finish.
This was made as an Xmas present for my boyfriend. The artwork was riveted to a sketch book I had bought for him with a piece of hard plastic cut from a clear plastic tray purchased from a dollar store to protect the copper sheet, as the piercing work compromised the strength of the copper in spots. Copper rivets for leather work were used to attach the plastic and copper to the book cover.
I chose the image of a leafless tree for the sketch book to signify the creative process. Sometimes you start with a base idea and it grows. Also because the creative cycle can sometimes seem like the growing cycle of the tree. At times it is in full bloom and others it is dormant, but much like the leafless tree it is still very much alive.
